Martha Coakley, the horrible woman running for the United States Senate in Tuesday's special election in Massachusetts, is pouring blatantly false ads about her opponent, Scott Brown. The ads claim that Scott Brown wants hospitals to turn away rape victims.
The truth is that as a state legislator, Mr. Brown proposed an amendment to a bill permitting "morning after" pills for rape victims. The amendment would allow doctors with sincere religious objections to refuse to give the pills. Protecting religious freedom is hardly the same thing as wanting hospitals to turn away rape victims.
Coakley's sorts of lies in campaign literature turn off intelligent people who can see through them. If she is willing to lie awfully as a candidate, do we really want someone like this in the Senate. Or, more accurately, another someone like this.
Martha Coakley is a remarkably bad choice for the United States Senate. We hope her lies backfire on her.
