President Obama met with some business "leaders" (i.e., big business CEOs) to ask them how the government can create jobs.
Here's a hint: Their answer will be wrong. The Big Business call for government solutions are meant to restrict trade to help their own bottom lines. No surprise.
Restricting trade hurts jobs overall. Maybe it help jobs who are favored by the protectionist legislation Big Business likes.
The answer to more jobs overall is not one generally pleasing to Big Business. It is: stop placing barriers to entry into the markets for all goods and services. Stop taxing, licensing, permitting, and regulation, regulation and more regulations. All this government tinkering helps Big Business keeps its smaller competitors out (and jobless) and keeps prices up.
The government punishes businesses for having employees, punishment Big Business is better able to weather. The government punishes business by taxing payrolls. By punishing work and rewarding non-work, the inevitable happens. The government punishes by imposing costly regulation. The state governments especially punish employers who hire minority workers, by preventing the employers from firing the non-productive. The inevitable result: higher unemployment among minorities, particularly African Americans. Big Business is better positioned to take the risks.
President Obama is plainly asking the wrong people about what the government can do to "help" them create jobs. The right answer is do less. Much, much less that government is doing now.
Good luck.

Sacrificed Survivors
While it easy to lament the fact that the "day that will live in infamy" at Pearl Harbor is being forgotten as new generations of Americans are born and educated (in government schools). However, the Japanese who attacked Pearl Harbor are a very different Japanese than those who make our automobiles and who are significant trading partners.
9/11 is a very different thing. Even though 9/11 was almost 10 years ago, 2001, the left leaning media are working hard, overtime even, to make us forget it. I cannot, and we as a country should not. They are still trying to kill us.
The same mass murderers who planned the 9/11 attack are still out there plotting against us and trying (and succeeding) to subvert some American youth to their cause.
The Cordoba Mosque which is actually on a ground zero site (one of the aircraft engines dropped on the building), appears to be a celebration of the Islamic victory that Islamaists celebrated after the 9/11 attacks. Imam Rauf, former head of the committee promoting the Mosque warned in a televised interview that if America deterred the Muslims from this victory mosque (victory is my word, not his), Americans would not be safe anywhere in the world. That, my friends, is a threat we cannot bow to.
I urge everyone to see Sacrificed Survivors, the documentary about people who lost their lives on 9/11 and the insult of this victory mosque. Because of freedom of religion, we know the government cannot stop the mosque from being built, but the there are other lawful ways to stop it. If the promoter Muslims were really civic minded, they would understand the insult and understand the tension they are creating, and would stop. By continuing to promote the mosque (current being operating in violation of building codes), the message they are sending is one of defiance to public sensibility and one of celebration of a triumph of Islam over America.
Watch the film. Go to a showing. Buy the video.
And remember 9/11.

Al Gore Missed Me
Over the weekend, Al Gore accused Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and the Wall Street journal editorial page to conspiring to "mislead" the public about the global warming myth.
I am disappointed. OK, I am small fry, but I really, really want to be part of that conspiracy to tell the truth, and I think I have been. From Noel Sheppard at Newsbusters:
Let us all send Al Gore back to his home planet, whatever that is.

The man whose schlockumentary has been so discredited that a British judge in 2007 noted nine material falsehoods in "An Inconvenient Truth" that must be disclosed to students if shown in a public school is pointing fingers at others for conspiring to spread misinformation.Let us all join THE CONSPIRACY TO TELL THE TRUTH about the global warming myth.
Also hysterical is his claim that "global corporations base their profit margins on the ability to pollute" as it seems a metaphysical certitude that his own profits and investments in advancing this myth didn't surface during his address or the subsequent Q & A.
Let us all send Al Gore back to his home planet, whatever that is.
Wisconsin Protests Show Left Wing Hypocrisy
Are Bill Maher and the other left-wingers featured in the video constitutionally capable of admitting they were wrong?
I don't think so.
Where is Nancy Pelosi decrying the left wing rhetoric in Wisconsin?
Why does it seem that there are very, very few on the left capable of telling the truth?

Moron of the Day: Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL)
On the floor of the House today, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz claimed that the term Obamacare was "disparaging reference to the President of the United States.
No. Ms. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. Here is disparaging: You really are a dumb b***h. See the difference?
That is disparaging. Granted, Obamacare is not a compliment. That is because Obamacare is an abortion as a substitute for a real health care system.
If you want some more derogatory, just ask. We can supply. How about crapcare?
Congratulations Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on being our Moron of the Day.

20th Century Genocide
I was reminded of a bit of history today. In the twentieth century, genocide was advocated by the socialists and the communists. \
The communists wanted to get rid of those they (the elites) did not consider productive members of society or those who were not "new men" having a bad attitude about being cogs on society's wheels. The National Socialists, when they took over in Germany, had a purpose of genetic purification, to create a master race.
The German exterminated 6 million Jews in their endeavor. The Soviet communists exterminated 7 million Ukranians by deliberate starvation and millions more in other totalitarian progroms. The Khmer Rouge in Cambodia killed another two to three million in genocidal campaigns.
These are not flukes of history. Purification by genocide is central to core communist and socialist philosophy -- all to create a better world (in their view). (Oh, we really don't think that anymore, they'll say. Sure. Not until you are in power.)
It baffles me that anyone today could give either ideology any credence whatsoever. But the left does.
It will be different this time, they think. Really?

Pigford Fraud
The so-call Pigford settlements, see previous post with links, are rife with fraud. For a long time, only Andrew Breitbart was on the story. Fortuately, he is tenacious. Here are the resource on the Biggovernment site.
Now, some members of Congress are finally waking to the massive fraud.
Watch here for the latest press conference (or was it merely a presentation?) on the issue, which took place at CPAC. I am not sure what the video is to which Ms. Bachmann refers, but here is the Biggovernment.com Pigford feed.
Any time the federal government gathers together a pot of money, people try to get their hands on it bey fair means or foul. Mostly foul in this case.
The best way to prevent Federal government fraud: keep money out of the control of the Federal government. Period.
In my view, the people committing the fraud are not the only criminals in this mess. Also criminal are the actions of Congress-critters and bureaucrats who turned a blind eye to the fraud. Accessories before and after the fact.

Moron of the Day: James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence
You are not going to believe this. James Clapper, Obama's Director of National Intelligence claimed publicly that the Muslim Brotherhood is a largely secular organization. There is a full report with video clips atHotair.com.
In George Orwell's 1984, the totalitarian government in doublespeak named the ministry to conduct war the "Ministry of Peace" and so on. Only that sort of reasoning can explain Mr. Clapper being the Director of National Intelligence.
Be afraid. Be very afraid of this administration.
But on the bright side, we have our Moron of the Day. Congratulations to James Clapper.
Note, it is possible that this is simply a gaffe and he actually knows better, like President Obama's 57 states gaffe. Let us pray that it was just a gaffe.

Moron of the Day: the IRS
Today, I ran in into an new annoying IRS regulation. My wife and I do not have a joint bank account. However, we filed our taxes jointly and received a refund addressed to both of us. My wife duly endorsed the check and I took time from work to deposit the check into my account.
Noooooooo. I was not permitted to deposit the check. Under a new regulation, my wife has to be physically present for me the deposit the check, I guess because I might have committed fraud.
So here we are. Both us us need to take time off work merely to deposit a check.
If a commit fraud, charge me, try me, convict me.
This is simply another regulation to punish the innocent for the crimes of the few.
Congratulations to the unnamed bureaucrat behind the IRS regulation, working hard hard to make life in the United States a little less pleasant day-by-day.

EPA Out of Control -- Regulating Milk Spills as Oil Spills
This is another ridiculous, outrageous act by a power hungry, out of control agency. The USEPA pretending that animal oils are dangerous to the environment and pretending that it therefore has authority has adopted rules regulating dairy spills. After all, milk has animal fats and oils.
The absurdity of this regulation illustrates why the US EPA should be abolished. Obviously, it does not have any real environmental hazards to go after, so it goes after milk, of all things.
If EPA has the manpower to regulate dairy spills, it desperately needs a budget cut if abolishment is politically unpalatable. Get rid of these people from our government.

Obama The Statist Speaks to the Chamber of Commerce
If you can stand listening to this guy, pay attention to his constant implication that we(meaning government) must make sure the business does ... whatever. We already know that President Obama's understanding of economics is nil. He thinks that government should be in charge of pushing business.
In the clip, the President does not say what is reported below his image. If President Obama really said that government standards would spark innovation and competition, he is dumber than I give him credit for. Standard are guaranteed to do exactly the opposite.
Standards always stifle innovation. That, it seems, is the purpose of standards.
As for competition, only those with enough money can afford to hire the experts necessary to comply with the inevitably complex government standards. so, standards destroy competition, by limiting access to the market.
Where did we ever find this doofus President? 2012 can't come soon enough.

Moron of the Day: Scott Saiki of Hawaii
Will Hawaii ban children from buying toy guns?
Just when you think that the state laws could not get any dumber, Hawaiian legislator Scott Saiki comes up with this beauty.
This is definitely a stupid government trick.
Congratulations to today's Moron of the Day.

If Hawaiian State Rep. Scott Saiki gets his way, guns will be outlawed in Hawaii. Toy guns for kids, that is. Adults can still buy toy guns. Presumably, it is still safe to give them to children. It sounds to me like political correctness run amok. I am guessing that Mr. Saiki is a Democrat, because I would like to think that no elected Republican is that stupid. Maybe we need to put that guy into some sort of quarantine, so his mental illness does not spread.
This is definitely a stupid government trick.
Congratulations to today's Moron of the Day.

Moron of the Day: President Barack Obama
In his weekly address, the President spewed socialist idiocy:
It is the obligation of business to make a profit. Period More business activity helps everyone in society, but that is a by-product. The president needs to dump his Marxist notions that businesses have some other social responsibility.
Business has no obligation to hire workers, unless needed to make a profit. Business has no obligation to pay decent wages, unless needed to make a profit (and the workers, by their industry and skill are worth decent wages to the employer). Business has no obligations "to invest in the future of this nation."
More business is good for everyone, because there will be more jobs. Everyone who wants to work and be productive benefits, either form jobs created by others or by creating jobs for themselves. A rising tide lifts all boats (as a real president, President Reagan, once said).
More government does make anywhere good for business. More government "helping" business really means government favoring the business in-crowd, the favored few. It means hurting the rivals to the in-crowd, preventing business entry by the newcomers, all in the name of "protection" of the public. It is protection in the same sense as the mob providing protection, of course. The president's approach is truly evil, even if done with the best of intentions. Look for protectionism from any Obama plan to "help" business. Watch the government "protect" primarily union jobs. "Protection" promotes inefficiency. Government "protection" is at its heart corrupt.
Government is really efficient at only one thing in business: stifling innovation The best thing government can do the help business is get out of the way. Reduce the size of government. Repeal the EPA. The administrative branch needs maybe four agencies, maybe less. Eliminate or strictly limit the right of the administrative branch of government to enact regulations having the force of law. Congress is supposed to be making the laws, and it makes too many as it is.
Do I think the president means well?. I do. He is simply too ignorant of economics to understand how poor his policies and "vision" are. He thinks government is the answer, no matter what the question. He fails to understand that government is inevitably the problem, not the solution.
Congratulations to President Barack Obama, today's Moron of the Day.
Supporting businesses with this kind of 21st century infrastructure and cutting-edge innovation is our responsibility. But businesses have a responsibility, too. If we make America the best place to do business, businesses should make their mark in America. They should set up shop here, and hire our workers, and pay decent wages, and invest in the future of this nation. That’s their obligation. And that’s the message I’ll be bringing to American business leaders at the Chamber of Commerce on Monday – that government and businesses have mutual responsibilities; and that if we fulfill these obligations together, it benefits us all. Our workers will succeed. Our nation will prosper. And America will win the future in this century just like we did in the last. No, No, No.

Ken Salazar In Contempt
In June 2010, I reported on the preliminary injunction issued by a federal judge in Lousiana that essntially called Ken Salazar a liar. Yesterday, the same federal judge held Ken Salazar, in his official capacity, in contempt of the preliminary injunction. The preliminary injunction had enjoined the government's moratorium on new drilling permits in the Gulf of Mexico. In yesterday's order, the judge said,
The plaintiffs’ civil contempt claim focuses on the government’s imposition of a second blanket moratorium hurriedly on the heels of the first; plaintiffs argue that moratorium amounts to a flagrant and continuous disregard of the Court’s Order. But a finding of contempt of the preliminary injunction Order for that reason alone falls short. The plaintiffs read this Court’s preliminary injunction Order too broadly; that Order emerged from the Court’s finding that the plaintiffs were substantially likely to prove that the process leading to the first moratorium was arbitrary and capricious as a matter of law. As an answer to the plaintiffs’ quarrel with the second moratorium, the government maintains that it merely met the Court’s concerns and resolved each of the procedural deficiencies the Court found in the first. fn3 Perhaps. Under these facts alone, then, the Court could not, at least not clearly and convincingly, find the government in contempt of the preliminary injunction Order. See Singh, 428 F.3d at 582 (finding standard not satisfied when district court simply expressed doubts about the sincerity of a party’s compliance with an injunction order).Full opinion here. It would be a shame if the taxpayers had to foot this bill. In my opinion (not a legal opinion) Ken Salazar should be personally responsible for the legal fees assessed in this case. This is not a government debt, but a debt incurred by Salzar's lawless behavior. It was Salazar's willful disregard of lawful authority that caused the debt and he should pay for it.
There is, however, more to the story. The plaintiffs also stress that the government did not simply reimpose a blanket moratorium; rather, each step the government took following the Court’s imposition of a preliminary injunction showcases its defiance: the government failed to seek a remand; it continually reaffirmed its intention and resolve to restore the moratorium; it even notified operators that though a preliminary injunction had issued, they could quickly expect a new moratorium. Such dismissive conduct, viewed in tandem with the reimposition of a second blanket and substantively identical moratorium and in light of the national importance of this case, provide this Court with clear and convincing evidence of the government’s contempt of this Court’s preliminary injunction Order. To the extent the plaintiffs’ motion asserts civil contempt based on the government’s determined disregard of this Court’s Order of preliminary
injunction, it is GRANTED.
------
fn3 The government’s answer, however, is diminished by the Secretary’s undisputed public statements of determination to ban deepwater drilling out of his concern for systemic dangers. These public statements were silent about addressing the Court’s Order.
