About ten days ago, a correspondent from Islamonline.net, who identified himself as Shahul Hameed, told me that "In conclusion, it is absurd for anyone to suggest that Islam advocates killing people who covert to another religion," quoting Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Kutty. He also assured me that the Afghan clerics who were demanding death for Christian convert Abdul Rahman were tribal extremists.
Indeed.
Today, the news includes a report from a South Africa news source that the the head of Islamic jurisprudence at Afghanistan's Science Academy confirms that in Islamic law, death is the mandated penalty for apostasy.
Tribal extremist? Or high government official?
