Goodbye Trent Lott--We Hope

Conservatives have become increasingly unhappy with the big spending Republicans in Congresss. I, for one, believe that Republicans were more effective at holding down spending when they were a minority party, sad to say.

Now Trent Lott, complaining about porkbusters who are criticizing a $700 million allotment in a spending bill to tear up an operating rail line, said in the Washington Post,

"Lott vigorously defended the rail line plan.

"'I'll just say this about the so-called porkbusters. I'm getting damn tired of hearing from them. They have been nothing but trouble ever since Katrina,' he said. 'We in Mississippi have not asked for more than we deserve. We've been very reasonable.'"

Deserve? Deserve?

Mr. Lott thinks that Mississippi "deserves" your money. You earned it. But Mississippi deserves it. That is exactly what is wrong with government charity. It becomes an entitlement.

Mr. Lott has been in Washington too long.
