Why Not Raise Taxes?

The bipartisan Fiscal Commission I created last year made this crystal clear. I don’t agree with all their proposals, but they made important progress. And their conclusion is that the only way to tackle our deficit is to cut excessive spending wherever we find it – in domestic spending, defense spending, health care spending, and spending through tax breaks and loopholes.

Wow. "Tax breaks and loopholes" is government spending to him?

The President (and you don't know how much it pains me to call him that) thinks all the money in your pocket is government money he simply hasn't yet gotten his hands on.

Yesterday, I accused the Democrats of lying about tax cuts. Here is Chris Matthews explaining to President Obama that a tax cut is not about giving people money.

The Obamatons seem to think that all money earned by you and me belongs to the government and the government lets us keep some of the money we earn, and that we should be grateful to the government for letting us keep some of it.

These socialist notions slip into their language when they are not careful. That is what the Obamatons in the administration and Congress are really thinking and that is why they have to go. They must be voted out at the first opportunity.

The Tax Debate We Should Be Having

Flat Tax versus the Fair Tax. I favor the Fair Tax, but we need a Constitutional amendment to prohibit any new income tax for it to work.



Both taxes would be unsatisfying to "progressives" who want to punish success ("soak the rich") or reward failure. Everyone gets treated equally under both taxes. Isn't that what we always believed America to be all about? Equal treatment?

Looney left Sherrod Brown is at it again. After the Democrats created massive opportunities for abuse of federal dollars, in part by bailing out AIG and others, Sherrod Brown wants to punish the giving of bonuses by bailed out institution, to the tune of a 56% tax rate. So he introduced a bill to tax after-the-fact bonuses given by AIG and other bailed out companies.

We all hate greed with federal dollars. The real solution is to be stingier with those dollars in the first place. Cut federal pork. The porkulus and other massive spending bills make waste and abuse inevitable.

It is horrible tax policy to pass a punitive tax after-the-fact on money previously paid. Tax policy should never be used for punitive purposes. Of course, horrible policy is Sherrod's middle name.

If the bill passes, you can be quite sure that innocent will be punished with the guilty.

If there is a problem (and it does sound pretty bad), ex post facto tax policy is a truly evil way of dealing with it.

Update: Full disclosure. I did not receive any bail out money. I did not receive any bonuses from TARP money. 'Nuff said.

Geithner Defense Fails

Does it really comes as a surprise that the tax court would reject a Timothy Geithner-like Turbotax Defense?

Gee, if the Turbotax defense is good enough to persuade Congress, why shouldn't it work for the ordinary Joe? Or Kenneth and Linda? After all, just like Mr. Geithner, Kenneth & Linda failed to include income on a return that was reported to them on a form 1099.

Could a double standard be at work here? Who'd a thunk it? Hope and Change. Not.

Tea Party

I attended the Tea Part in Columbus, along with about 6,000 (my estimate) of my closest friends.

Obviously President Obama's dismissive comments about the tea parties shows that he does not yet get the point. He thinks that it is just about taxpayers unhappy on tax filing day.

No, Mr. President.

It is about an uprising of citizens unhappy with your porkulous bill and other runaway government spending, threatening to mortgage future generations.

You know it is getting bad when there is talk of secession as we heard from Texas. Maybe talk that will begin to penetrate that thick political hides -- Democrat and Republican -- that run our country's excessive government.

Obama Attacks Joe

What is the content of Obama's character? He attacks Joe the Plumber, because Joe supposedly makes $250,000 per year (which Joe denies).

So Obama's message is clear: He wants to punish people who succeed (or are on the road to success) financially. If he can't punish them financially, he will pillory a private citizen.

In Obama's world, a guy who dares to question him and his desire for government "to spread the wealth around" deserves to be punished. Obama must have no conscience whatsoever to smear average citizen, Joe the plumber, including spreading a big lie about Joe's income.

Obama's Tax Plan

Obama's Tax Plan is simple: Punish success and reward failure.

Joe the plumber sees it. No wonder the MSM, all left-wing, is smearing Joe with all its fury.
Public disclosures of a private citizen, the liberal MSM at its worst:

• Joe is not a licensd plumber. So what? A license is not a prerequisite to owning a plumbing business that employs licensed plumbers.
• Joe has tax liens. My conclusion, taxes are too high and too tough to pay for non-employee folks who have to file estimated returns. If employees, who now have taxes withheld, had to actually write checks, they would see and truly feel how burdensome the tax system is.
• Joe is a distant cousin to Charles Keating. Wow. Could the smears get any more irrelevant?
